MEET THE CREATOR
Hello and welcome! I’m Alessia, and my journey to this place has been shaped by both personal experiences and a deep professional calling. As a mom of a child with nonverbal autism, I’ve walked many of the paths you might be navigating right now. It’s a journey filled with unexpected challenges and countless moments of joy, all woven into the unique adventure of raising a neurodivergent child. My background in psychology and mental health has taught me that parents don’t just need advice; they need true empathy, understanding, and resources that are as steady as a helping hand and as comforting as a familiar smile.
In my world, psychology, creativity, and practical support come together. I’m here to provide real, down-to-earth guidance for parents. My journey has included studying Positive Psychology at Stanford University, exploring Creativity and Problem-Solving at Sheridan College, and continuing my studies in Behavioral Sciences, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Care, American Sign Language, and French at Seneca College. Currently, I’m on a path toward specializing in Neuropsychology at York University.
This is a community that embraces the triumphs and supports the struggles of raising neurodivergent children. My goal is to share knowledge, tools, and boundless compassion to help you move forward with confidence, even when your child’s journey follows a unique beat.
I’m thrilled to welcome you to dive in, learn, and connect with others. Together, let’s go beyond just getting by. Let's empower our children and help them achieve their full potential.

What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, behave, and interact with others. It is called a "spectrum" because it presents differently in each person, with a wide range of strengths and challenges. Some common characteristics of ASD include difficulties with social interaction, repetitive behaviours, and sensory sensitivities. The causes of ASD are still being studied, but it is understood to be influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
-
What are Developmental Disorders?Developmental disorders refer to a group of conditions that involve delays or impairments in physical, cognitive, language, or behavioral development. These disorders typically manifest in early childhood and can affect various areas of functioning. Examples of developmental disorders include intellectual disabilities, communication disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Early diagnosis and intervention are important for helping children reach their full potential (World Health Organization, 2019).
-
What are Sensory-Processing Disorders?Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD) occur when the brain has difficulty receiving and responding to information from the senses. Individuals with SPD may be overly sensitive (hypersensitive) or under-responsive (hyposensitive) to sensory stimuli such as touch, sound, light, or movement. These challenges can impact daily activities, social interactions, and learning. While SPD is not officially recognized as a standalone diagnosis, it is commonly observed in individuals with developmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (Miller, Anzalone, Lane, Cermak, & Osten, 2007).
